Early Closing Information

Due to emergencies, such as inclement weather, electrical outages, and other unforeseen circumstances, it is sometimes necessary to make changes to the school day for the safety of our students. Please take the time before an emergency arises to develop a contingency plan in the event of a school delay, early dismissal, or cancellation and discuss it with your child.

Parents are reminded that regardless of the exact timing of a storm occurring during the school day, the early dismissal schedule is as follows:

  • Elementary schools: 11:45am
  • Middle schools: 11:00am
  • High schools: 10:30am

These early dismissal times will not vary. There are multiple information sources that will provide you with changes to the school day including:

HANOC

Our community center, Hillcrest Avenue Neighborhood Outreach Center (HANOC) provides a homework center and counseling groups for our students and their families after school every day except Friday. They work with Duffy School and Wolcott School to provide services to all of our students.

PTO

We have a very active PTO who provides funding for many school activities and programs. They meet ten months of the year on a Thursday evening in the school cafeteria. Dates are announced in our weekly newsletter. Click Here for their main page.

Student Council

Duffy's Student Council is a dynamic group of children from Grades 2 - 5. We rely on their enthusiasm to lead us in School Spirit Days throughout the year. The Council also sponsors several community service projects. Elections are held in classrooms and 2 representatives are elected. Meetings are before school at 8:00 am in room 17.

Dateline Newsletter

The Dateline is published every other week and sent via e-mail, or if requested, in print. The Dateline is sent every other Thursday and is also available online. The newsletter provides information for our families and community about the PTO activities, school programs and special events that take place at Duffy. Click here to view current and past Dateline issues.

Duffy Handbook and Directory

The Duffy Handbook and directory are sent home at the start of each school year. They contain important information about our school and our policies. Please click the link below to access the handbook online. The school directory can be found in the book that was sent home at the start of the school year.
